Giving back to Gilbert: A peek into the life of Oasis Haircuts' Master Hair Stylist Elsa

As part of Oasis Haircuts' 1st Anniversary Event, we asked Owner & Master Stylist, Elsa a few questions to learn about her and her motivations for starting her own small business here in Gilbert, Arizona.

When and where were you born?

I was born on October 22nd, but my birth wasn't officially registered until October 26th in Mira, Ecuador!

When did you move to the USA?

I moved to Long Island, NY in 1992, and many years later I became a U.S. citizen in May 2008!

While I did enjoy living in New York, as time passed, it became clear that the climate was affecting my son's health and that moving somewhere drier was the best thing we could do for him. Arizona ended up being the perfect place for him and us!

When did you move to the good ol' Grand Canyon State (AZ)?

My family and I moved to Gilbert in 2005, and we haven't ever thought of moving away since! We love the fact that everything is so close by; we love hiking in Sedona, Salt River tubing at Saguaro Lake, and visiting Lowell Observatory up in Flagstaff! There is so much to do!

What do you love about Gilbert?

I love Gilbert because it’s a town where most people have a sense of what it means to be a good community.

Throughout the past 15 years that I've lived in Gilbert, I have met its beautiful, happy people and love their commitment to keeping everyone safe, educating their kids, and helping their neighbors.

They work hard for their dreams, and most of all, keep this beautiful place feeling just like (what I like to call) a little piece of heaven where its citizens receive newcomers with open arms.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Now, through my business, I am returning their kindness and am serving Gilbert's citizens with the same compassion and altruism that they showed me about 15 years ago when I came with my family.

What motivates you?

I feel that my two biggest motivations are my children and a great desire for success in life & business. I want to be an example for my children. I want to let them know that they are loved.

I want my children to realize that there are no barriers that are impossible to cross when we have a goal; it is a matter of discipline, commitment, and hard work to make our dreams come true, and with that, they can achieve success and happiness.

Any other facts you want to share with your clients?

I would like to let my clients, people whom I've learned to love and consider an integral part of my life, know that you have been an inspiration to me.

You are the reason I started my own business, and I hope you know that I am here for you and that I will do whatever it takes to make you look as great as you are!
